Assorted Updates, and Added Product Descriptions
This week, I’ve:
- added several hundred new products,
- deleted several hundred “dead links,”
- corrected several dozen typographical and classification errors, and
- added product descriptions, shown when the cursor is on a product title.
It will take a day or two before these changes are visible on all 2,030 pages at this site.
I’ve also including longer product descriptions (mostly provided by publishers or resellers, but sometimes edited or written by me). To see a product description, position the mouse cursor over the product title (note the color highlighting “cue”). Once the mouse is still, the “vendor description” message should appear.
With Firefox, the description remains visible indefinitely; with Microsoft Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, it disappears after about 5 seconds — which is very annoying for any descriptions longer than one or two sentences. I’ll try to fix this (by using a JavaScript “tooltip” script) “soon.”
Update (2/2/2011): Earlier this week, I “attached” the product description to the entire product block, which includes several lines of text and extends from the left to right margins (including lots of “white space”). That was confusing, so I’ve changed it: now the description appears only when the mouse stops directly over the product title (which has a peach-colored background).
I’ve also begun editing some of the longer descriptions to remove meaningless flowery text and hyperbole (and some garbage).
